2010 - Worldwide

Adventure Alternative, UK Adventure Alternative began as a small expedition company and has now developed into an organisation that sets up locally based tourism initiatives, to sell the company’s product, in numerous locations around the world. Adventure Alternative provides financial resources and advice on management principles to ensure no outsourcing or middle-men, plus full employment in the host countries and an executive decision on issues like local salaries, sustainability and environmental concerns. This long term business model and strategy has given Adventure Alternative an advantage in terms of staff loyalty, credibility and client satisfaction and allows people to develop tourism fairly and transparently in their own country and to act as role models for other companies. The organisation helps fund the Moving Mountains charity and supports many ongoing projects and initiatives, for example, investing in the Penan People of Sarawak and committing to an annual planting of 40,000 indigenous trees in the rainforest as part of their company carbon offset, as well as building a community centre in Miri for the Penan People. |
